Lay Involvement

Tradition of Collaboration

COLLABORATION: ONE FAMILY

Saint Jeanne Jugan envisioned hospitality as a humble fraternal service uniting in one family the Little Sisters, the elderly and lay collaborators.

________________

As a community we state:
Therefore we affirm our absolute trust in Divine Providence, source and substance of our Mission and Institute as Little Sisters of the Poor. Countless lay collaborators, intermediaries of this Providence, support our work through material assistance and voluntary service.

By the ongoing practice of the collecting we express our reliance on Providence without, however, neglecting human means. We believe that through their selfless charity, a channel of grace is opened in the souls of our benefactors.

Association Jeanne Jugan

The Association Jeanne Jugan offers to Catholic men and women the opportunity of sharing in the spirituality of the Little Sisters of the Poor, of participating in their mission of hospitality, and of helping to spread the charism of Saint Jeanne Jugan where they live and work.

After a year of spiritual preparation, new members are inducted into the Association Jeanne Jugan on May 1st, the feast of St. Joseph, patron of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

A.J.J. activities include:
  • Serving as lectors and Eucharistic ministers
  • Visiting Residents who are hospitalized, room-bound or in need of special attention
  • Helping with the meal service
  • Assuring a comforting presence with the dying Residents
  • Helping with fund raising activities
  • Helping the Activities Department with their events.

The Holiday Boutique
Held the last weekend of October, the Holiday Boutique is a long standing tradition for the Volunteers of the Little Sisters of the Poor. (call to verify date and time)  (See newsletter for more information)

The volunteers and Residents make beautiful crafts and ceramics throughout the year with an eye toward the boutique. The Auxiliary was founded in 1997. The focus of the group is specifically on fundraising to help the Little Sisters with operational costs and special needs.

From the cluster of 22 founding women, there are now over 200 members.

The Auxiliary meets three times a year in the months of January, April and October.

Since their first event in 1998, the Auxiliary has raised over $1,000,000 for the Jeanne Jugan Residence. This makes the Auxiliary the single largest donor to the Residence excluding legacies.

This is a remarkable accomplishment for such a short time. It makes a significant statement about the dedication and skill of these women and the generosity of their constituencies.

For information about membership in the Auxiliary, please call 310-548-0625.
